27April-19May Sofia (BG) - Lisboa (PT) 3116.33km

So, as the audience was not relevant to update this blog daily, I have decided to focus more on what matters (hang our with my hosts and prepare the daily journey).
It was another trip to remember, wonderful soundtracks, shared stories, learned as well, lost 20kg in 3 weeks, biked the Monaco GP circuit, climbed the Pyrenees under heavy rain, opposite wind (present on most journeys which forced me sometimes to catch the train and avoid late arrival to my hosts), found interesting secrets, had a lovely chat with the Spanish authorities, cycled in the Autovia (Spanish toll free motorways, and yes, it is legal to cycle there, helmets are mandatory in all Spain), and ended up in the Rock in Rio festival (aka Far Far Away) with a wonderful welcome and all night party!
Stats and all the pics of this trip (more than 600) can be found on the Sports Tracker and Facebook banners of this blog.
And lets's see where next!

2016-05-01 Zagreb (Croatia), Litija.... Ljubljana (Slovenia)

This day was simply with rain all day long, had a flat tire, then was not properly fixed, so was enforced to catch the train, so has had 90minutes time made adjustments and some other mechanical checkups on the bike.
About the view... Simply Wow! Better results with rain!

2016-04-30 Vinkovci - Nova Gradiska ... Zagreb (Croatia)

Today as I knew that would have to get a train to Zagreb as yesterday have not reached my planned destination, decided to make a shorter and more relaxed journey and be at my confirmed stay. The road was still flat, no wind and cloudy day marked the day. Just to chill, however made s better average!

Re: 2016-04-29 Beograd, Serbia - Vinkovci (Croatia)

The route was completely flat, however in cloudy and cold days ( max temperature at 11degrees) there is also some wind. At the beginning was quite friendly when mistakenly turned south convinced that would be the main intersection towards west, then when back on proper road, still had to find ways to cut light opposite wind and got able to make an average of 20km/h. Also very impressive was even with an entire cloudy day, experienced a very wonderful sunset and arrived to Vinkovci by dark night with a wonderful road on the Croatian side.

Beograd (Serbia) - Vinkovci (Croatia): 181.40km in 9:11:07 average 19.74km/h, max speed 34.74km/h, trip total: 499.53km, bike total: 14093km:

2016-04-28 Aleksinac - Velika Plana ... Beograd

With a very bad start of the day on which I stayed on an over priced hotel (they claim 4 stars, but everything is extras, including the lousy breakfast which I had no drinks, few food, so don't go to that only hotel in Aleksinac), that affect my entire performance during the day, got sentitive uphill and slight opposite wind which made end up in Velika Plana and then do the rest by train as I had confirmed host in Beograd.

Aleksinak - Velika Plana (Serbia): 119.96km in 7:04:16, average 16.96km/h max speed 52.84km/h trip total: 318.3km, bike total: 13909km:

2016-04-27 Sofia (BG) - Aleksinac (RS)

As per first day of the big exercising of the year, the start was really hard, feeling the heartbeat in my ears and getting tired quickly. Lucky most part of the road was downhill, however once there is opposite wind and road works which caused a flat tire and hard to find a calm point to fix the tube, had to inflate almost every 5km.
Funny fact is that a local resident on a small Serbian village was really willing to help and even with language barrier, we sill get along on the wheel repair!
Then once reached Nis, finally the wind was calmer, but was already late to meet my host in Krucevac, so ended up in the only acommodation available in Aleksinac.

And the statistics with heart rate, altitude and speed in addition to geo location: Sofia (Bulgaria) - Aleksinac (Serbia): 198.34km in 9:41:52, average: 20.45 km/h max speed 44km/h bike total 13789km

2015-05-10 Lyubimets - Plovdiv (BG) (Last day of the Balkan trip)

As I had made the most on the previous day, on this one gave me some comfort to my arrival to Plovdiv as my last train to Sofia would be at 7PM.
However using the road 8 (E80) is quite risky for cyclists as is quite narrow, lots of trucks coming from/to Turkey (actually there was like a 10km queue of trucks to enter Turkey from Bulgaria), with the main advantage is to have mostly trees beside the road which is good to give some shadow and wind protection.
The day started very sunny, lovely, then on my last 20km the wind got stronger, temperature decreased quite drastically and surprisingly did not rain that much! I consider that as a celebration of my last stage!

Storm coming (well, were mainly clouds and wind only, not much rain)
And arrived to my final destination!
And for the last day: Lyubimets - Plovdiv (BG): 137.35km in 6h42m56s, average 20.45km/h, max speed 51.42km/h, trip total: 2066.19km, bike total 10282km.

2066km very well spent! Was countless the amount of people I salute, irrelevant of their job, beliefs, orientations, mood, living conditions and the best is that in most of them is that a salute back either on their local language or a simple Ciao!
And that my friends, is one of the reasons I like to do most of my vacations on pedal! There is no better feeling than be in the ground and admire the beauties around and on the case of this trip, to break many myths about people's behaviour! This applies to animals too! Slow down, if the dog keeps barking talk to them, if insist, then speak louder (even angry), that everything is sorted out and no animal will hurt you!
So, be kind to the world so the world will be kind to you!

And to finalize this topic, this time I compiled the graphic reports of this journey, and as I have invested on a heart monitor, it will be easy to see how the heart behaves when you start out of shape and when you are back to good old times! (If this image is not readable for you, go to
